CLINECT — TERMS OF SERVICE AND PARTICIPANT AGREEMENT

Clinect is currently in pilot phase. Participation is voluntary, research-informed, and subject to the terms below.
Clinect is a digital platform that connects medical students with clinicians for structured, real-time bedside teaching during NHS clinical placements.
Clinect is available to medical students on clinical placement and registered NHS clinicians at participating pilot sites. Access is by invitation only during the pilot phase. Users must be affiliated with an approved pilot site to register.
When you register, we collect your name, email address, year of study or clinical grade, and your hospital site. This information is stored securely on Supabase, a cloud database provider operating with encryption at rest and in transit, hosted on EU-based servers.
We do not collect patient data. We do not collect phone numbers through the platform. We do not share your data with third parties.
Session posts, including clinical category, ward location, and timing are visible to student participants at the same site. Session feedback and CPD logs are stored against the posting clinician’s account.
No patient identifiable information may be entered into any field of the Clinect platform. This includes patient names, initials, dates of birth, NHS numbers, bed numbers combined with identifiable clinical details, or any combination of information that could identify a specific patient. Clinect sessions should describe clinical topics, presentations, or categories only — for example, “acute chest pain” or “liver cirrhosis management.” Any post found to contain patient identifiable information will be removed immediately by the platform administrator and the user will be contacted directly.
Before posting a session, clinicians must confirm via the in-app consent prompt that verbal consent has been obtained from the patient for a medical student to be present. This confirmation is logged. Clinicians must not post sessions for patients who have declined student involvement.
Students must not perform any clinical task outside their current level of training and supervisor sign-off. Clinicians must not delegate tasks beyond the competency of attending students. Both parties confirm this via the in-app consent prompt at session acceptance and posting respectively. If a student feels pressured to perform a task outside their competency, they should decline and contact the platform administrator immediately.
If a student attends a session and experiences distress, witnesses a concerning clinical situation, or has a fitness to practice concern about themselves or others, they should follow the safeguarding and reporting processes of their registered university and the relevant NHS trust. Site-specific contact details for student support and reporting will be provided in the briefing material for each pilot site. Clinicians who have concerns about a student’s conduct, wellbeing, or fitness to practice during a Clinect session should follow their standard NHS trust reporting processes and additionally notify the platform administrator.
Pre and post-pilot survey data collected through this pilot will be used solely to inform product development, unless participants have given explicit written consent for inclusion in a peer-reviewed publication. Data will be held by the platform administrator for the duration of the pilot and for a maximum of 12 months thereafter, after which it will be securely deleted.
Participation is voluntary. You may withdraw at any time without giving a reason by contacting the administrator. Withdrawal will not affect your placement, assessments, or standing with your university or NHS trust.
Clinect is an independent platform not formally endorsed by the NHS, any NHS trust, or any university. The platform administrator takes reasonable steps to ensure data security but cannot guarantee against all forms of data breach. Users accept this risk by registering.
